This week, an 80 to 1 long shot horse named Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby in amazing fashion. Literally only getting in the race due to another horse dropping out 5 minutes before the deadline on Friday, Rich Strike started dead last Saturday to work his way up front for the win. When he turned the final corner of the race he was in 17th place out of 20 horses. But he DID NOT GIVE UP. Hoping against all hope, he persevered and it paid off big time. What a lesson on the value of never giving up. The stories of his owner, his trainer and jokey were no less inspiring. Perseverance is a virtue. It reminds me of one of my favorite verses of scripture. The Apostle Paul proclaimed this timeless truth in Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest IF WE DO NOT GIVE UP!” When we preserver at doing good, it is not a long shot. It’s a sure thing!
